Fitting a Cushion

If you are an Assistive Technology Professional, this page is for you. Fitting an Cool-Comfort Wheelchair Cushion is simpler than you might have experienced with other products you have used before.

First
You need to determine the model of cushion if that is not already decided by an issued prescription. To evaluate which model cushion matches the patient need and/or the Medicare coverage, you can reference the section on Medicare Codes.

Next
You need to determine the size of the cushion, based on the width of the wheelchair it should fit and the length of the patient’s thighs.

Other
You also may need to help the patient determine if they would benefit from the Circulated Air upgrade available for the Cool-ComfortSP and Cool-ComfortSPP cushions. The upgrade (adding the letter C to the model number) consists of including an air circulation fan, rechargeable batteries, and battery charger to the purchase.

The Cool-Comfort fan maximizes the heat management and moisture reduction benefits of the cushion. Patients with higher risk of skin ulcers, or who use their cushion in warmer environments, may find this upgrade particularly valuable.

The cost of the optional Circulated Air upgrade is not covered at this time by Medicare or other insurance. It is the responsibility of the patient.
